Perry Jones is a candidate for Big 12 Freshman of the Year and a sure-fire lottery pick should he decide to enter the draft, but his passivity has hampered his production.

“I haven’t been the type of player to just sit there and take shots when my team needed me to,” said Jones, who averaged 16.3 points, 10.8 rebounds, 4.8 assists and 1.7 blocks as a high school senior. “I’ve always been a very passive player.”

Baylor Coach Scott Drew has been trying to change that, and there’s no doubt he’s made progress toward that end.

“Defenses have done a good job in adjusting to him and trying to limit him,” Drew said. “He’s also had an opportunity to now work on facing double-teams and different things like that, which he’s getting better at.”

No. 3 Texas held off a furious rally by Baylor to win 69-60 on Saturday night.

The Longhorns have won 10 games and Ohio State's loss to Wisconsin could make Texas a candidate for the nation's top spot.

"We don't want No. 1," sophomore forward Jordan Hamilton said.

Texas started 17-0 and reached No. 1 for the first time in school history before a quick losing skid left them unranked in a matter of weeks.

"I don't want to be No. 1," Tristan Thompson said. "Enjoy No. 3 and keep climbing that mountain."

The Longhorns are 10-0 in the Big 12 this season.

Baylor defeated No. 16 Texas A&M 76-74 in overtime on Saturday afternoon.

Anthony Jones' layup with 3.1 seconds left in the extra session lifted the Bears over the Aggies.

"Early in the year, in crunch time, we would lose," Baylor coach Scott Drew said. "I think we're getting better in operating in crunch time. I just really liked the fight our guys had today."

It was the first overtime game between these teams since a 116-110 win by Baylor in five overtimes in 2008.

The victory snapped a three-game road losing streak for Baylor and was Texas A&M's fourth loss in five games.

Perry Jones had 19 points and seven boards in Baylor's 73-66 loss at Oklahoma.

Jones was 8-for-14 from the floor and 3-for-5 from the line in 39 minutes.

Jones has played at least 38 minutes in four of his last five games.
